Located in Ninh Bình Province, Cúc Phương National Park is Viet Nam’s first and oldest national park, established in 1962. Covering an area of over 22,000 hectares, it is one of the most biologically diverse areas in the country, home to ancient forests, rare wildlife, and significant archaeological sites. The park is a popular destination for nature lovers, researchers, and adventure seekers, offering trekking, wildlife observation, and cultural experiences with local ethnic communities.
Natural Beauty & Biodiversity
Cúc Phương is situated in a limestone mountain range, creating a unique ecosystem of tropical rainforest with towering trees, dense foliage, and diverse wildlife. The park is home to over 2,200 plant species, 120 species of reptiles and amphibians, 135 mammal species, and more than 300 bird species. Some of its most famous inhabitants include the Delacour’s langur (Trachypithecus delacouri), clouded leopard, Asian black bear, and pangolins.
During April to June, Cúc Phương transforms into a breathtaking spectacle with millions of butterflies filling the air, making it an unforgettable experience for visitors.

Key Attractions in Cúc Phương National Park
- Thousand-Year-Old Tree (Cây Chò Ngàn Năm) – A giant ancient tree with a girth of over 20 meters, one of the most famous landmarks in the park.
- Endangered Primate Rescue Center – A conservation center protecting rare and endangered primates, including the Delacour’s langur and black-shanked douc langur. Visitors can learn about the rescue and rehabilitation efforts of these unique species.
- Cave Exploration – Cúc Phương is home to significant caves such as Hang Con Moong (Prehistoric Man Cave), which contains remains of early human settlements dating back 7,500 years, and Hang Đắng (Dark Cave), famous for its impressive rock formations.

How to Get to Cúc Phương National Park
- Distance from Hanoi: About 120 km (3.5-hour drive).
- Transportation: Travelers can reach the park by car, motorbike, or bus from Hanoi to Ninh Bình, followed by a taxi or motorbike ride to the park entrance.
